Nigeria a thriving country generates no less than 3,000,000 (3 million) tonnes of waste annually
and the challenge of managing the waste has become an environmental disaster. And only about 20% of these waste are collected and recycled. Now across the country and the world we have heard that
waste can be turn to wealth and a variety of beautiful things. And what if you can sit from the comfort of your home and make this money or beautiful things? Yes it is!

Rajan Ahluwalia has been in the recycling business since 1989. He is from Mumbai (Bombay) India. His father served in Indian Railways, and his mother was a stay-at-home mother. He holds a B.Sc. degree from Bombay University in India.

At the 2013 independently organized TED event held in Canada, he was one of the speakers and he spoke at length on what he calls the "Future of Recycling".

He started off with the question; What is rain? and he went on to explain that rain is recycled water infact a very close loop of recycled water. Nature recycles water in a very systematic way i.e the water cycle but what is fascinating is that in doing this nature doesn't use any chemicals, does't release any emissions and there are no by-product.

Now, what if mankind can achieve such a process? that will change the whole world. But what has happened was that instead of following nature mankind has been "so good to nature" so far, they have misused it as much as they can. Nature has been exploited and this has gone on and on for so long, now man has realized the need to go green.

When it comes to environmental awareness and waste management, Sweden is one of the world's champions. The country recycles nearly all of its waste and - in the process - generates electricity and heating. Sweden has turn Her  waste to gold, Sweden produces 4.4 million tonnes of waste per year and just 1% is dumped in landfills. The are far ahead of other countries in the business of recycling.

Waste management is the precise name for the collection, transportation, disposal or recycling and monitoring of waste. This term is assigned to the material, waste material that is produced through human being activity. This material is managed to avoid its adverse effect over human health and environment. Now, there are many types of waste: municipal (household, commercial and demolition waste), hazardous ( industrial), biomedical, electronic (e-waste), radioactive.

With the increasing urbanization, waste management is a major global issue that governments face daily. The overproduction of waste has been causing negative impacts on our environment.
Waste reduction and valorization need to be taken to the next level. What are sustainable solutions for waste disposal & management?

The main principles of waste management are:

1. Waste hierarchy, referring to the “3Rs rule” Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, waste prevention and minimization being the most desirable goal.

2. Extended producer responsibility, adding all the environmental costs to the market price of a product, including end-of-life disposal.

3. The polluter pays principle, requiring that a waste generator pays for the appropriate disposal of the waste.
